Here, the wind is forever.
What does home mean to you?! Several years ago, photographer Thomas Nondh Jansen made a radical shift, moving with his family from a bustling, cosmopolitan city center to a quiet, one-road village in the rural North of the Netherlands. In this new environment, he found himself caught between two worlds. He was amazed by the sense of space, the endless cloudy skies, and the relentless Dutch wind. Yet, he also felt the sudden absence of city life—missing friends within cycling distance, world-class museums, and the overwhelming variety of late-night takeaway options. In his new ongoing project, ‘Here, the wind is forever.’, Thomas uses his photography and surroundings to question this transition. He researches he typical Dutch rural landscape by staging, large-scale outdoor installations like a symbolic family home crafted entirely from hay bales and creating an arch constructed from colorful children’s outdoor toys. By creating colorful and humorous still-life photography with everyday (rural) objects, Thomas wonders what home means to him.
